Artist CV
Oscar Nimmo is an Eora (Sydney) based artist whose practice explores the creative potential of process-based form generation. Within each series he works through a different set of limitations and technologies that each impose unique characteristics on his work. This may range from automatic pencil drawings that explore gesture and mark-making, to an engagement with digital programs to augment and ‘breed’ new forms. Throughout his work there is an intentional sublimation of the human touch, trusting that these automatic methodologies can lead to new aesthetic languages that can better reflect the current moment.
This experimentation is realised through a drawing-like painting process that combines thin layers of acrylic paint to create softly rendered images. This labour intensive process embeds a sense of weight into each form. As each piece is slowly realised, there is an injection of human experience that comes from time spent living with the work.
